Coronaviruses (CoV)

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a broad family of viruses that can cause a variety of conditions, from the common cold to more serious diseases, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) coronavirus and the one that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV). A new coronavirus is a new strain of coronavirus that had not been found before in humans.

Coronaviruses can spread from animals to people (zoonotic transmission). According to in-depth studies, we know that SARS-CoV was transmitted from the civet to the human being and that transmission of MERS-CoV from dromedary to human has occurred. In addition, it is known that there are other coronaviruses circulating among animals, which have not yet infected humans.

These infections often occur with fever and respiratory symptoms (cough and shortness of breath or shortness of breath). In the most severe cases, they can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Common recommendations for not spreading infection are good hand and respiratory hygiene (covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing) and full cooking of meat and eggs. Close contact with anyone with signs of respiratory condition, such as coughing or sneezing, should also be avoided.

Tens of thousands of confirmed cases and hundreds of deaths (mostly in China) from the new coronavirus, originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan, are already in the afterlife.

As of Thursday, the virus totaled more than 82,000 people infected in at least 46 countries in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Oceania.

South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran are the countries with the most cases since China. Since February, more new cases have been reported outside China than in China.

Cases have already been detected in Brazil and Mexico in Latin America.

The officially called covid-19 keeps health organizations around the world on alert as their spread and contagion capacity appears to be more intense than they originally warned in China.
